About the Artist
Renowned pianist and teacher John Perry earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at the Eastman School of Music as a student of
Cecile Genhard; during those summers he worked with Frank
Mannheimer. Recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, he worked with
Wladyslav Kendra in Vienna and Carol Zecchi in Rome. Winner of
numerous prizes in international competitions, Mr. Perry has performed
extensively throughout Europe and North America. As a chamber musician
he has collaborated with some of the world's finest instrumentalists and
enjoys an international reputation as a teacher, presenting master
classes throughout the world. His students have been first-prize
winners in major competitions, including the Rubinstein, Naumburg, and
Chopin National, and those of the Music Teachers' National Association, Beethoven
Foundation, Federated Music Clubs, Young Keyboard Artists Association,
American Music Society, and the Young Musicians Foundation; they have
also been finalists in the Chopin International, Van Cliburn, and
Queen Elisabeth competitions. Mr. Perry is a member of the faculty of
the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California,
the Colburn School for Performing Arts in Los Angeles, and the
Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, California. He also serves as a
visiting artist faculty member at the Toronto Royal Conservatory of
Music, a guest faculty member at the Banff Centre, and an artist
faculty member at the Aspen Music Festival, the Sarasota Festival, and
the Holland Music Sessions. He records on the Telefunken, Musical
Heritage Society, CBC, Fox, ADA, and Academy Records labels.
